Dim 2400 Win XP "error loading operating system"

Forum Folks -

My son has struck again.  We have a Dim 2400 w/Win XP SP2 (Bios AO5).  He downloaded MacOSX86.  Everything was working until he decided to restart.  Now we get NO operating systems - NONE.

I have a black screen with this message: "error loading operating system".

He also informed me that he partitioned the hard drive to make an 8GB second HD.

Please help - where in the world do I start to fix this mess?

V from CA,

**I just realized - the computer was purchased in Jan 04** What now??

Now it gets harder. The only option you have is to do a reinstallation of XP. The procedure for this is here.

I note that the directions say:

To avoid possible interference from peripherals, it is advisable to disconnect all external peripherals except monitor, mouse, and keyboard from the system before reinstalling XP.

There is an Nvidia card installed on the Dell - do I need to remove it?

Also a wireless network card...

V from CA,

If your system was made after 7/15/04 you can return it to "as shipped" condition using the procedure here.

If that works, the next thing to do is give your son a Limited account and password protect all the admin accounts on the computer.

I was afraid you were going to suggest restoring the system - ugh!

No other way I suppose...I had to do it once before (should have learned my lesson).

Do I have to do anything special about the SP2 part?

Thanks.  --V

V from CA,

No, those are not external. They should not create any problems with the installation.
