Dimension 8200 DOES NOT turn off completely!
That's right! More often than not, we have to MANUALLY push (and hold) the power button in order to turn off the computer despite shutting it down completely (you know that start menu and turn off ritual in shutting down your pc)
What happened? What's wrong? Any suggestion/ solution?
By the way, we're running Windows XP Home, Dimension 8200.
I know this may be a "minor" thing, but it's definitely time consuming to wait for the computer to shut down and actually have to look at the CPU light if it indeed shut down completely or not. It would be nice to just do the sequence of shutting it down and just walk away confident that your PC will actually shut down itself.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure that the system is not trying to install updates when the call to shutdown is executed?
It could also be a hung process waiting for an application to close before it shutsdown.
Another alternative is to right click on the task bar and select Task Manager.
See which processes are running. From that same screen you can also click on "Shutdown" and try both of the following:
After clicking "Shutdown", try clicking "Turn Off".
If that doesn't work, click Log Off. This usually works and then the system will shutdown by clicking Turn Off .
Sounds like a hung program application.
