Dimension shipped with outdated OS last week

Last week, I just bought a Dell Dimension 4600 with Windows XP Media Center Edition installed and was horrified to find that Dell shipped it with an outdated Version 2002, SP1. The microsoft website: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/upgrade/default.asp indicates that Dell should have installed the current version, Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2004. I can't seem to get anybody at Dell to help me with this. All I want is a CD sent to me with either the current version 2004 so I can install it myself (or an online upgrade) like all the other OEM companies have. To send out new Dell desktops (I paid over $2000) with outdated operating systems is unacceptable. Can anybody help me? I've tried to reason with my Dell salesman but he doesn't appear to be concerned. I don't really want to return the whole system for a refund, although I might have to. All I want is what I paid for - a current version of the operating system, not the 2002 version that's 2 years old. Can anybody help me? Thanks.

I was wrong. I have resolved this issue successfully. I have determined that I,
indeed, did receive Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2004. My
confusion lay in that in computers equipped with Media Center Version 2004,
if you hit start>settings>control panel>system>general tab, it will say
Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002, SP1 even when Version 2004 is
indeed installed. To verify that Version 2004 is installed, you need to
doubleclick on the "Media Center" icon on the desktop, then select
settings>general>about media center (option 10 of 10) and you can determine
that Version 2004 is indeed installed.
I apologize for my confusion, but this was not only unclear to me but to
dozens of technical support people I talked to at Dell, Microsoft, and HP. I hope my eating crow can help others of you out there from being similarly confused.

I had the same issue. Dell service did not know what to look for to prove to me that is indeed was media edition 2004. If you go to the microsoft web site, it specifically says that dell computers and sony computers only have version 2004, this is direct from microsoft. It aso shows you where to look for the version number in your pc, as this seems to be a common problem
