"Disk Cleanup" sometimes locked up when checking "Compress old files". "Compress old files" can be Deleted from the Registry OK & the "Disk Cleanup" runs OK.
Use Run & type regedit , OK then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches\Compress old files right click on "Compress old files" & select "Delete".
Files/Folders can be compressed manually if you ever need to , although should be necessary with large HD.
