Disk Cleanup

When attempting to delete temp internet files, the cleanup utility seems to hang - any thoughts/suggestions??

To solve the problem do the following.
1.Create a system restore point in case of any problems, then proceed.
2.Click on Start, Run.
3.Type in "Regedit" and click OK.
4.Browse to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches
5.Expand it and delete the folder "Compress Old Files "
6.Close the registry editor and restart the system.

Before deleting that key, I suggest you export it first, saved as a *.reg file. That way, if you ever want it back, you can merge it back into the registry by double clicking on the file. To export, left click on the Compress Old Files key, file menu, export, navigate to the folder where you want to save, type in the name, click save.

Liche 1908,

Yes, sorry, I was thinking of a different key, that removes the search for compressed files option completely from diskcleaner; people who don't ever wish to compress old files remove it to speed up diskcleaner.

Should have read your post more carefully :)
