Disk Defragmentor Could Not Initialize

"Disk Defragmentor could not initialize"

Just recently, i noticed this error. I get it when ever i try to use the winxp disk defrag. when i tried diskeeper 8, i still get the same error. I did some research on it and i found something that this happens when the master file table(mft) on ntfs systems become defragmented. Well i used system commander to defrag the mft. that did not change my problem i still get this error.

I also found that uninstalling norton antivirus can also cause this error. So i reinstalled it and it still didnt work.

What else can i do without having to reformat my system?

Did you run the Win XP  "Error Checking" on the drive?  If not, do that first and then run the defrag application.

I don't know about the 3rd party disk maintenance programs you are running, but some 3rd party programs rearrange the disk differently than the Windows maintenance sets it up.

Mr.Trumpman,

You may want to try the workaround in this Microsoft KB article
