Diskeeper File Table Display
Hey all,
I've been using the Diskeeper defrag program for quite some time (just upgraded to 8.0) and I'm happy with it. I also have been curious about something in the graphical display of the volume. BTW, I realize the display scale is not accurate.
In my display, it appears that well over one third of the used space is labelled "Reserved for System Use". The actual system files take up a minute portion in comparison. The swap (paging) file size remains constant.
My question...yep, I really have one, is this: what does the system do with over a third of the used spae? And why does it need that much?
Ok, that's really two questions, and it's not like I am at a loss for space, but (on my system) that's almost 7 GB.
This is off-topic, I know, and if anyone cares to respond, feel free to dom so via PM and perhaps subsequently e-mail.
Thanks in advance.

Hey Yellowhammer,
Thanks for responding. I have my system restore space set for 5% which should be about 3.7GB. Perhaps this setting function is not working proiperly? The 12% setting would in fact take up around 7GB on my drive.
Thanks again.

Hey Verns600m,
Is there a way to run Windows defrag? Clicking on disk defragmenter in the Start>all programs, etc. launches Diskeeper, as does the defrag shortcut in Properties of C:\ drive. I don't want to uninstall Diskeeper just to find out. I'm more curious than anything else.
My machine is running fine, it just seemed like a lot of space reserved for system use. BTW, 80 Gig H/D set to 5% for system restore. Three users, and I defrag every night before shutdown. (Don't know if number of users has any bearing, but I figure the more information provided, the easier to come up with possible explanations.)
Thanks for responding.
Any ideas?

Hey Verns600m,
It sure does. I think I'll hit up Executive Software (or at least try to) for some answers. By the graphics, it would seem that approximately 9.5% of the total disk capacity is system reserved, or about 7GB out of the 13+ change GB of used space. Perhaps this is normal.
I may do a search of the knowledge base at Microsoft, too. Maybe I just have too much free time.
Thanks again for your response.
