dll error after SP2

I have a problem that is driving me crazy. I did search the forum before posting but did not find anything current. When I am reading my email (MSN Mail-MSN Explorer) I get a warning "We're sorry, but MSN Explorer has experienced an internal error and will have to restart" and the choice of "Tell MSN or Don't Tell". After clicking one or the other it signs me out of my browser and I have to sign in again. This will happen when reading an email, just clicking on an email or scrolling the emails. This began after I installed SP2. When I click on the Error Signature page I get this information:

AppName: msn.exe AppVer: 9.10.11.1703 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 OffSet 00018fea

I am using Verizon DSL. I called them and they uninstalled MSN Premium and reinstalled. I also ran a CHKDSK. Still have the same problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Please start from making sure that your computer is spyware/virus free - see the second link below for more information (make sure to run online virus scans).

P.S. Is it really necessary to use/install MSN "Premium" (?)

100, thanks for your reply. I was beginning to think no one was paying any attention to my post. I will go over the 1st link you gave me "Optimize XP". Looks like a lot to cover. Yes, I have checked for spyware and adaware. I am clean. I read the "How to Install SP2...." before I downloaded. I am now getting this dll error message at other times than just when reading my email. I am not familiar with dll that is why I posted but there must be a way to reinstall this dll thing or fix a corrupted one. Can you or anyone lead me in the right direction? Thanks again for your reply.

I read your posting and I am experiencing the same issue. Have you resolved yours? If so, how did you do it? Thanks, The Ocho

Yes, Ocho, I finally did resolve the problem by doing an XP Repair. It was worth it. It fixed that problem and several other minor things.

What do I need to do, or where should I go to perform an XP Repair?  I am not a techie:-)

Thanks!!!

Ocho, you can go to this site and follow the directions. You will need your XP CD. I did not do any backup before I did the repair and I didn't have any problems but I don't know what important things you have on your computer. Also, you have to be set up to boot from the CD. In other words, turn off your computer and instead of turning it back on, put the XP CD in and it should boot up. Then follow the directions for Repair. Good luck, I am not a techie either and right now I am not in my home state where I left the directions for a repair but I think it was pretty straight forward after I booted from the CD and clicked on Repair.
