Drive Image 7.0 doesn't work with SATA

PowerQuest DriveImage 7.0 does not support the SATA drive I have in my recently purchased Dell 8400 PC. This is a known fact around the web. My question is:

Is there a reputable backup/restore package that works like DI that supports SATA drives?

XP has a backup system installed already right?

For XP home you have to install it from the CD.

Also, Nero has a decent backup system. I try to stick with Microsoft products. They are already included.

Alex,

New hardware recognition seems to be a problem with backup software these days. DI 7 recognized my SATA Raptor WD740GD and WD360GDs.

Symantec bought out PowerQuest. When I look at the Norton Ghost 9.0 Product imformation page I don't see any SATA hard drive support information. Just articles about previous versions of Ghost having problems with Intel based motherboards and Serial ATA drive controllers.

Just found this...you can try updating DI 7
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/powerquest.nsf/docid/2004112915575362?OpenDocument&src=hot&prod=Drive%20Image&ver=7.x&csm=no&tpre=

I don't like their support options.

Acronis TrueImage8 is another alternative. I recently purchased this one but had to go to their homepage, register and download the latest version before it would work on my system. I'm using it to back up the Primary SATA hard drive to a second networked computer. I've tested the restore and it works well. They also have a support forum where you can ask questions before you buy. Just don't expect it to work on RAID arrays.
