Driver Installation Inspiron 8600

Question

Hi,   I have just reformatted my harddrive on my Inspiron 8600 and completed a clean install of XP pro SP2. There were no problems with the installation.   I began the process of installing the latest drivers in the order specified in dell KB article 327740. I'm downloading the drivers to a memory stick on my desktop PC and then coping to a directory on the laptop. Each time I try to run the exe file for the latest driver on the laptop I get a 32 self extractor module error. Its happened on several files.   If I install the original driver from the drivers CD that came with the laptop they seem to install fine. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? It sounds like the downloaded files are corrupt.  Try downloading them again.  Make user you use the http site and not the ftp site, as I have found problems with the ftp downloads.   Steve

Ok. I jumped ahead and loaded the nic driver off the CD, got the laqptop on the internet and can now download and install the latest drivers from the dell site ok. No sure why.. Happy to be mving ahead :)
