You are probalby ok . . the consequense of not loading the chipset drivers is that usually the others will not load . . in your case, XP likely loaded a chipset driver for you . . . unless you are having driver problems it should be ok

Ferd,

Only on an older system (i.e. made before the first release of Windows XP) would the chipset drivers would be loaded by Windows.  On newer systems, as simpswr has suggested, the video drivers would not load without the chipset drivers, but only if you have video integrated on the motherboard.   If after loading the chipset drivers, your video drivers show a problem, then try uninstalling the video adapter in Device Manager, rebooting, and reinstalling the video adapter drivers.

Thanks.

Since I reinstalled Windows XP Home, I've had trouble with a screen saver (not suppied with Windows). It now kills active programs when I exit the screen saver with a mouse move. Is this a video difficulty?

Everything else seems fine. I could uninstall the video driver (video is built in, I think - I did not add anything when I configured the system when I bought it about 8 months ago), and reinstall.

Good idea?

Never mind. I tried uninstalling the video driver, reinstalling the chipset drivers and then reinstalling the video drivers, but I still have the same behavior.

Simple solutinon - don't use that screen saver.  I have seen more than one screen savers that have incompatibilities with certain network cards.  If you need a screen saver, use one that works.

You're right, of course. I don't need a screen saver at all, but I like this one. But I will now give up on it.

Thanks for the help.
