Driver Updates for Inspiron 530 using Windows 7
Hi,
The Dell Driver update page does not allow Windows 7 as a selection. It assumes Vista, but I have upgraded to Windows 7 (32 bit).
Are the driver updates the same for Windows 7 as for Vista?

Dell doesn't issue drivers unless they have tested and validated they will work on the system. The 530 was discontinued before Windows 7 started shipping, so they did not develop drivers for it. In most cases, Vista drivers will work. If they do not, then go to the manufacturer of the device in question - they will often have drivers there you can use. What devices are you having an issue with?

Thanks for the reply.
Actually, the computer works fine running on Windows 7, but I am planning to replace the E4300 processor with an E8500 processor (the motherboard manufacturer lists it as compatible). I went to the Dell support page and it lists a large number of BIOS and driver updates assuming Vista, but did not allow Windows 7 as a choice. Near as I can tell, the BIOS is current, but I am not sure.
My current plan is to simply try the CPU swap and see if it works. If it does work, then I will leave well enough alone. If it doesn't work then I will go back and figure out if there is some necessary BIOS change.
Cheers,
Eric

Hi, I'm using Windows Vista drivers for my 530. There is no difference between vista and 7 when it comes to drivers, someone once said, that win 7 was an service pack for vista.
