DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I have a history here on this thread  http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/19312798/19623469.aspx#19623469

After many start up problems with laptop ie. BSOD, restart normally or in safe mode and so on, decided to reinstall OS (followed directions in manual).  Well, still had same problem after this and then had new problem of no internet connection.  Rick helped me reinstall again in proper order and fixed internet connection.  But still have BSOD with:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Tech Info:

STOP:  0x000000D1 (0x89DFD300, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x89DF20F3)

tunmp.sys - Address 89DFD300 base at 89DF5000,  DateStamp 479190dc

ecache.sys - Address 89D720F3 base at 89D66000, DateStamp 49e01f2c

Gave up on dell support long time ago - no help, they'd always tell me it was a software problem. Warranty over and support over.

Hope someone can help.  Great big thanks to Rick, with putting up with me!

Rick gave you great advice, and you choose not to listen to him?????

Hello, the hard drive is toast. Buy a new one. End of story.

ieee488,

I just wanted to confirm about the Hard Drive. I've seen posts before but really didn't bother with them.

Thank you for confirming this.

Well, I guess that is it.  I really do not know anything about computers, which is why I came here for help.

I thought I would try everything I could before giving up.

By the way, this laptop is 13 months old and these problems started from the beginning. And like I said, Dell support was no help.  It seemed like Dell never believed I had a problem.  The problem is I do not know enough about computers and did not defend my case enough. One thing is for sure, the next laptop will not be a Dell.

I am grateful for all the help I got here.  I got 100 times more help here than on the Dell support phone line. I wish I had discovered this forum sooner.

Rick, thanks so much.  You are trully amazing and patient!

Margaret

Maragret,

Forum members are very helpful here. They can give you instructions on how to install the hard drive. HERE is what you need. Sometimes they're on sale at Office Max or Staples.

Ask the other forum members and they can help you with installing it and then you will need to insert the Media Direct Disks first before installing the operating system. Then you'll need to install the drivers like we just did. It really not a very expensive fix, just a little time consuming.

Take care,

Rick,

Do you think this is all that is wrong with it - just the hard drive? Could there be anything more?  Wondering if I should expect more problems and more expense.  I do not want to pour more money into it, if its just going to fail again.  I would rather save my money for another computer.

I guess I would follow all the steps you gave me before for reinstalling, right? after getting a new hard drive.

Thanks again,

Margaret

If you Google the error message, you'll see that it can be anything.

After all the work done by RIck, it is a good educated guess that it is your hard drive. But in reality who knows?

Whether buying a new hard drive is worth it, that is your decision.

Because it is a laptop, there is not much you can do.

The only other things you might want to do is re-seat the RAM if it is easily accessible or flash to newer version of BIOS. No guarantees.

Margaret,

If you restart your computer and press F12, then run the full diagnostics, you will find out if everything else passes. It's most likely the hard drive.

You would install the hard drive. use media direct disks, if you computer has this, then ued the Windows Vista operating system disk. Then you'll need to install the drivers in the begining of the thread.
