Drivers for Windows 2003 Server

Hi I have an Inspiron 6400/E1505 and I installed Windows 2003 server besides WinXP. Most of drivers for Windows XP worked in 2003 server, but audio drivers and modem driver didn't. I just checked in Dell's download site for this kind of notebook, but they don't have any drivers for Windows 2003 server.. I'd like to know where can I find this drivers. Thank you.

That's too bad... I think Dell should supply that kind of drivers... the thing is I had to install 2003 Server not because i wanted to, but because an university project... anyway... I'll do what you told me. Thanks for your answer. P.D. ... and excuse me for my english... it's not my native language ;-)

Dell is not going to supply drivers for server software on a notebook, you can try to install XP drivers in compatibility mode if Server 2003 offers this.

The only thing you can do is poke around the drivers section for servers that dell sells, and see if you can find one that matches that sound chip.

Doany3,

Download Update for Windows 2003 Server (KB901105).

Enable (Auto Startup) Windows Audio Service.

Install Downloaded Update for Windows 2003 Server (KB901105)

Install Dell Win2KXP driver for Stigmatel Stac9200 Codec.

Adjust Hardware Acceleration (Audio Properties|Advanced|DXdiag|Sound)

Your sound should now work.

Which modem does your Inspiron have?  Conexant 56K, Conexant D850, or Intel 537E?

Thanks Tony for your answer... searching in a thousand places I found the same steps you wrote. I already did that and I have my sound working :-D and the modem too (I think), The modem is a Conexant 56k v.92 I think, and I think is working , although I haven't tested yet. I'm still having a couple of little problems: 1. I installed de Intel 945GM drivers for WinXP but when I go to dxdiag -> display, it shows only 144Mb of total aprox memory when it should be 224Mb. 2. When I go right-click My PC -> Poperties -> Hardware -> Device Manager... it still show a PCI Device in yellow with an exclamation symbol, and I don't have any idea of which device it is. Any suggestions?? Thanks for your answers!!

Doany3,

Question.  Does your Inspiron have a wireless network card installed in the mini-pci slot?  Is it showing up in Device Manager?   You can download Everest system info utility from here:  http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html  It may help you analyze just what that PCI device is.

I wonder if the incorrect size of ram shown by dxdiag might also have something to do with the unknown PCI device.  Maybe Everest will give us a clue.

Hi thsmith... Yes, I have a Dell wireless card on my Inspiron and I already installed the drivers (XP drivers) and it's working fine...
I'm thinking if the error in the video memory showed by dxdiag is because I installed the XP drivers for Intel 945GM chipset, but there isn't any Win2003 driver for this chipset, I already checked at Intel's site.
I'll check the software you told me and I'll tell you about the results later...
Thanx..

Well... I downloaded the Everest software but it said that I have an Intel i945GM based chipset and it's not supported by that version and If i would send a review of my hardware configuration to everst so they'll add support for this chipset in further versions...
although I got the "id" for the unknown PCI Device I got on Device manager... is the Ricoh SD controller...
I think is weird because I I have all Ricoh's drivers installed (MMC, xD Picture and the other one) so ... If any of you guys have an idea to fix this thing I would appreciate even when I could live without that device ;-D
Thank you all for your help.

Doany3,

Think I finally found the booger.  Found this discussion about Windows 2003 Server drivers.
http://www.west-wind.com/WebLog/posts/4337.aspx  Click on this link.  On the web page do a search for Ricoh.  Note comments by Andre (using an Inspiron 6400/E1505 on April 27, and 28, 2006 about multicard driver.  Also note follow up comments by Jody.

Tried Andre's link:  http://202.188.160.140/user/user_drivercat.asp?product_category=Notebook&Model_series=Versa%20E%20Series&Model_id=70  (Note that all of his link doesn't show as hyperlink so if you click on his link you get a blank page).

It's the same as the updated multicard reader on Andre's link.  Note the comment about the SD driver portion.  Also note that Andre talks about running the setup.exe file in WinXP compatibility mode under Windows 2003 Server.

Hope this info helps.  Let us know if it works.

Tony

Doany3,

Yes.  The Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility  8.1.1.1010 released in November 2006 supports the 945GM chipset and Windows 2003 Server.  It is available for download here:  http://downloadcenter.intel.com/scripts-df-external/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=816&OSFullName=Windows+Server*+2003&lang=eng&strOSs=84&submit=Go%21

I recommend you print out the Read Me.txt file.  It tells how to handle common installation problems.  Also, take a look at the Release Notes.  It specifically notes support for the 945GM chipset.

Hope this info helps.

Dexter3323,

Please give the model of your Dell computer?  Also, please advise if you are using the gigabit controller on the motherboard of that computer or are you using a PCI gigabit controller card.

Dexter3323,

The latest (5/6/2008) Windows Server 2003 drivers for the Broadcom NetXtreme family of adapters is here:  http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R185735&SystemID=PWE_FOS_XEO_2650&servicetag=&os=WNET&osl=en&deviceid=2957&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=15&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=2&libid=5&fileid=253690

Windows Server 2003 installation instructions for the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Controller are here:  http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/network/r35278/UG/en/Win2003.htm

This is the latest driver recommended for the PowerEdge 2650 Server which has a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit controller on its motherboard.

This should do the trick for your 2350's Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit controller.
