And one more problem i have is that when i try to shutdown my standby button is transparent. i can not select that. i cna see it but can not use it. Any help please.

After upgrading to Windows XP, the first drivers that should be installed are the chipset drivers. Until the chipset drivers are installed, Windows will not be able to recognize or install drivers for many devices. So, install the chipset drivers first, then install the drivers for your network adapter, video adapter, and sound card. Are you sure you have a Dimension 2359? I've never heard of that model. Is it really a 2350?

Did you install the chipset drivers? Again, the chipset drivers need to be the first drivers installed. Once the chipset drivers are installed, it will solve the problem of the SM BUS Controller and USB Controllers and you will then be allowed by Windows to install drivers for the video adapter, network adatper, sound card, modem, etc. If you don't install the chipset drivers first, then you cannot install the drivers for these other devices.

You might want to try clearing NVRAM (also referred to as clearing CMOS). Instructions can be found at:

No, clearing CMOS will not hurt the system. It clears the information on what devices are attached to the motherboard and then forces the BIOS to redetect everything.

Which problem does it still have? Sorry I can't read your mind or see your computer from this end of the internet.

The chipset drivers are necessary for Windows to use the devices connected to the motherboard and has nothing to do with the checksum error. The checksum error is a problem with your BIOS which I asked you to reset. Since this did fix the problem, it indicates that either (1) you have a bad battery on your motherboard, (2) you have a problem with the motherboard, or (3) you have a malfunctioning device attached to your motherboard. You can troubleshoot possibility 1 by replacting the battery. You can troubbleshoot possibility (3) by removing all PCI cards and any device attached to computer, then putting them back, one by one, restarting the computer each time until you find the problem device. If it is a bad motherboard, then you will have to call Dell Tech Support.
