Dual Core Processor - Increase Performance

Yes, I downloaded and use the patch. The problem was if only one core was cranking away, Windows would decide the machine was not busy (50% CPU utilization) and throttle the clock back. With the fix, both cores have to be near idle to throttle the clock. It works well.

You have to enable speedstep (in the BIOS) and probably set the machine for laptop/portable (I think always on and desktop might disable speedstep but not totally sure). Then run one CPU intensive app and watch the CPU clock (use CPU-Z or similar). It if stays at the max you are ok. If it goes down, you need the fix. If you don't use speedstep, you don't need it.

On mine, the clock goes from 1.6 to 2.4 when running just one app. That is the desired behavior.

Changing something in the BIOS is no big deal. If you want to add a HD, you would have to do that.

If you aren't using speedstep, then there is nothing to fix.

I would suggest using speedstep, because it saves power and heat and retains performance (the fix is there to prevent a performance loss with speedstep).

However, if you think this is a big deal, just ignore it. Life will go on.

I think the hot fix is for any Windows XP (I suspect it is fixed in Vista) and for any dual core processor with clock throttling.

I originally noticed the problem with Pentium D.

Hi... I have the Intel Core Duo T2250 (1.73GHz) on my 6400 and I have XP Professional Edition Is this Hotfix only for Home Edition? Is this Hotfix is only for Core 2 Duo?
