Duplicate email messages in OE6

A few days ago I started receiving duplicate email messages in OE6. Some were duplicates of messages that I had not read yet, others were duplicates of those that I had deleted. My inbox now has over 300 "new messages" in it and is growing. This receiving of duplicate messages only happens once a day in the morning after turning on the computer and opening OE. Any idea what is going on?

There was a long thread with this discussion here.

Apparently Mcafee SpamKiller is causing the problem.

Thanks... I suspected that it might have been a McAfee product, but hadn't done any troubleshooting. I disabled Spamkiller for one of my email addresses and rebooted. Voila, the only duplicates I received were for the emails to the "protected" address.

How ironic that software that is supposed to keep clutter out of your inbox ends up doing just the opposite!

Thats why i dont trust Mcaffee products they are totally unreliable, I am  a Norton (symantec) all the way.

One time spend more than two hours on phone talking with Dell support and Aol support back and forth.  Until I uninstalled McAfee from my new computer and was able to surf the internet.

For whatever it's worth...I too was getting duplicate e-mails with OE6. Only lasted 2 or 3 days then

quit. P.S. I do NOT use either McAfee or Norton. Zone Alarm Suite works for me.

Hi,

This program will make short work of getting rid of all the duplicates once you have found out the cause.

The cause in my case was simply Human Interface Device Error or in other words, me.

Another issue to consider, although this one appears to be an application program, is the mail servier getting an "ack" (acknowledgement that the e-mail program) received the message.  When anything is sent, a reciept (ack) is expected or it's assumed whatever was sent was not received and a retransmission is initiated.  If, for example, an ISP's e-mail server sends a message and then does not get the "ack" for whatever reason it can send it again and thus multiple copies.

I also echo the fact that McAfee is not a good solution.  I am a network administrator, we ONLY use Sysmantec products.  Not they they dont have their weak points, they are better than McAfee period

hawkscivil,

I hope you have solved your OE problems by now.

I see that more than 2 months later, the thread you started is still listed on top of the board, and I'm rather sure that this is not what you intended. To undo that, open the thread, click "Thread options" (top left, next to Reply) and unfloat the post.

Kind regards,

Lemmi

Open OE, close it, then reopen it. That works for me.

Yes, the problem was solved by removing McAfee spamkiller. I removed the float on the message. I'm not sure how it got floated in the first place.

I would call your email providers and see why it is sending duplicate messages.

My Outlook Express 6 has deleted an entire month of needed email messages, I have no idea why, so I have been trying everything to retrieve them. I am a relatively new user so I am very frustrated. They were in my inbox. Could someone please tell me what I should do.

                                                                            Thanks, Jai

Sixers3,

Did you look in all e-mail folders, including the deleted items? I'm not aware of any function in OE that would automatically "clean up" your Inbox.

If you remember the subjects or text of some of the missing e-mails (single words would suffice), you could install Google Desktop Search and search for them.

As a general tip, and just in order to increase your chances to get a helpful reply: Please post your problem in a new thread instead of attaching it to an old one. This is now on page X of the Forum and there won't be many people going back so far.

Good luck

Lemmi

your issues are NOT mcaffee, as john stated, close OE and open it again, it will remove duplicate emails.

Fact: i dont use any third party symantec or mcaffee products, for longer than OE6 has been ive got duped emails. to this day i dont know why, where or how they show up. kind of weird if you think about it, as john stated, close oe open it, theyre gone, which would lead to me believe that more in the resending of the ACK. my question is, how many of you are using hotmail? "laughs" good ol microsoft products and good ol miscrosoft servers. but even at getting a duplicate ACK. why does the emails disappear after you close oe? "laughs" good ol microsoft bugs, you just cant kill them things, theyre like roaches. one dies and 1500 spawn from its death "sigh" if i wasnt so lazy that point and click is my best friend, i would dump MS and use linux. but i hate typing, haha cant you tell =)

Hi Sixers3.

I too, have had the same problem except it deleted exactly 6 months of my inbox -  3/29/05 noon to 9/29/05 !!   (several thousand messages )

Were you able to get an answer?  I am still learning how to even navigate this dell forum !!

When you were advised to start a new thread, did you ?  And if so, how can i get to it?  I would like to read your answers.

I have  received a recommendation for our problem and am trying to execute  but have not yet been successful.

Thanks,

Marti (phylmart)
