E-mail files converted to Word Files HELP
All of my saved e-mail files were somehow converted to word files and when I try to open the word file it is a bunch of symbols and jargon. Anyone have any idea how I can retrieve these IMPORTANT emails? Also how do I get the pop up to compact e-mail files to go away and not come back when I am closing OE? Thanks in Advance for you help!

Thanks for responding..... The other day I opened up my outlook express and everything was gone.
The files are dbx files and I can find them in the Outlook Express folder but in Outlook Express under the Folder name such as Morgan they aren't there. It reads that they are empty. When I found them upon opening Outlook Express folder (in program file) they are word documents and just a bunch of jumble with letters and symbols.... Do you have ANY idea what has happened and if there is any hope of retrieving them?
Thanks so much!

Your email files should have the extension dbx. They cannot be opened except from within Outlook Express. What is a typical name of a file you are trying to open, and how are you trying to open it (from within Windows Explorer)?

In Outlook Express are all the folders corresponding to the individual dbx files present but empty? That is, you have a Morgan folder shown but it contains no messages but there is a Morgan.dbx file shown in the Outlook Express folder under Documents and Settings and its size is not small (around 100K). If all the folders are empty you may be able to bring the messages back into Outlook Express by going to File|Import|Messages|Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and pointing the import facility at the Outlook Express folder containing all the *.dbx files.
