E1505 Base System Device Error

Greetings,

I recently did a clean install of Vista on a DELL E1505 and for the most part, everything works OK.   On every reboot, I get the '... found new hardware ...' wizard and it tries to install the driver.

It fails with a '... can not find driver ...' for the Base System Device.    The issue is that I see no device errors and all the attached devices (even the Ricoh card reader) work.    I can't figure out what it is refering to.

Any help would be appreciated ...

Thanks

This happened to me too. If I recall correctly, the device that is being discovered is the "SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller". In other words the SD card reader. So you should have three Ricoh drivers controllers installed (MemoryStick, MMC, & xD-Picture) and an the SD controller.

Thanks,

I was begining to lean in that direction.    Did you have to disable the device or were you able to find a different solution.   I tried to install the DELL XP drivers but to no avail.

Cheers

What method did you use to try to install it. I don't think just running the exe will work.

I manually expanded the Dell XP drivers to a temp folder, then selected the unknown device, right-clicked and chose Update Driver and pointed it to where I'd extracted the XP drivers. It installed this way.
