Although this may not be the best answer to your problem and deffenatly not what you want to hear here goes nothing. If you are not able to find the reason for this error then you may need to format the system and reinstall the software that you want installed on the system. This should clear the problem as I have the 8400 running XP and was able to install the software that you speak of with no problems.
