Hi,

I will recommend you to create a new user 'Super User' account:

  • Click on 'Start' an type 'cmd' in the search box.
  • Right click on 'cmd' in the search list and click on 'Run as administrator'.
  • Once the command prompt window appears, type 'Net user administrator /active:yes' and press enter.
  • You should get the message 'The command completed successfully'.
  • Close the command prompt and log off.
  • A new user account with the name of 'Administrator' will be created.
  • Log in to that account and check if you are able to to edit a system variable.

Keep me updated. Please reply if you have any further questions.

Hi

I was just about to do what you suggested and found the problem.  If you access via start search environment the encironment and system box comes up but you cant edit it.

if you go the long route round ie c panel / system / advanced system settings / environment variables  you can edit.    Simple but strange.

Many thanks for your time.  I  was starting to think a userprofile was corrupt.

Pete
