Email won't open

First let me apologize if this is the wrong board.  After a failed repair on my Inspiron 2650, I ended up doing a Recovery and  I was able to open and read emails. I then reinstall Microsoft Word, and now when I click on the email icon I get the following message:

Save this file now

Open this with Microsoft Word

Download this file later

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Revanche,

What email program are you using? If it is Outlook Express, right-click the icon and select "Properties." See what is shown in the Target box. If it is not "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" the link is not correct. You can either enter the correct target or delete the icon, go into Windows Explorer to msimn.exe, right-click it, and select Send to|Desktop (create shortcut) and create a new one.

Hi Denny,

I have Windows XP/Outlook Express. I normally get my email via the DellMSN page, the one that says "good morning, afternoon, evening..." But now when I click on the mail icon, that's the message that I get.  I've never been able to set up the "outlook express", so even though I have a msn email address, I usually go  thru MSN hotmail.  I don't have an Outlook Express icon on my desktop at all.

I'll try your suggestion when I get home.  Thank you.

When you installed Word, was the installation all of Office?  I use Microsoft Outlook for my mail which I beleive is a part of Office.  Could it have highjacked your email into Microsoft Outlook?  I'm sorry if I'm way out there.

I have Windows XP Home Edition and I purchased WORD separately and had no problems until now.  I recently did a repair install, which failed.  I then did the Recovery and was able to get all files back that were preinstalled with my computer.  I reinstalled WORD  and I'm thinking whatever the problem is that it's connected to the WORD program.  I'm going to try Denny's suggestion and see what happens. Thank you for your help.
