Why do you keep asking this same question? Outlook express is not email. It's a way of collecting your email. If you have POP mail you can use it. If you have free web mail you cannot. Get someone who knows to help you set up your email client with your Charter mail if Charter won't help.

You have to put in the pop and smtp server information daily? . .

Are you setting the accounts up this way?

Mary G:  I have pop3.  It does not work in outlook express for me.  I have printed out tons of paperwork.  Nothing works.  I cannot pay $1000 for in house repair.  The man would probably try to stay here as long as he can to get his $79.50 an hour.  Who are you anyway that you are so rude?  Nancy 1942  I am glad you know so much about computers.  I know basically nothing.  My emails are my life.

Dear Mary G.  I keep asking the same question because the help I am receiving is not working.  I have tried everything possible.  I stay on "Live Chat" with Dell for a long time almost everyday.  Nothing works.  Why don't you try paying $79.50 an hour to get someone in your house to fix the problem?  I am alone here on this internet.  Age 63 & there is no one to help me.  I purchased technical support from Dell to come to my house but they will not send anyone.  I thought this was what this message page was for was to ask for help.  Maybe I will eventually hit on someone who can help if I keep asking.  This is the only problem I have.  So, why should I ask another question???  Nancy1942

Here's a step by step graphic for charter: http://www.charter.com/help/FAQS/outlook_email.aspx?NoContentType
Follow that and see if you can get your mail. Make sure the server settings are exact. No extra spaces or capitals. Put in your own email address where it says Your Name@charter.net. Your servers are pop.charter.net for incoming mail, and smtp.charter.net for outgoing.

OK, the problem you are having is with Charter net. I've heard they have a terrible support dept., but I don't know since it's not my ISP. I have an idea. Do you have a grandchild, friend or neighbor that can help? You should not have to pay anyone to set up your email. That is supposed to be done when your Internet provider sets up your connection. Perhaps you are being too nice with them. Tell them you need to know how to set up your email acct. and demand satisfaction. After all, you are paying them.
Meantime, I have a solution. Go to Yahoo.com or Hotmail.com and get a free email acct that you use with your browser. Then you don't have to set up Outlook Express at all. You can also access your email through Charter net website using your browser.
I wish I were there to help you.

Go to this web site and see if you can access your mail from there. I'd try the support staff online via email, too. That's sometime more effective than phone. http://charter.com/products/highspeed/services/webmail.aspx
Hope that helps

Yes, I am putting in the configurations each day.  I cannot stand mail.charter.net.  That is what Charter set me up with.  I have a whole folder full of stuff I have printed out.  But, the configurations will not hold.  Charter will not help.  They will not even let me put in my correct address to them.  They have me listed as 3 separate addresses.  My P.O. Box.  My 911 address & the address of my cable.  None of the 3 work.  I will write them a note to put in with my new bill to them that I received today.  Maybe this will stir up some action.  Thanks anyway.

Mary G.  I have done these steps hundreds of times.  It is not that I do not know how to follow instructions & do the steps.  I have a whole folder full of steps I printed out.  The problem is the configurations in Outlook Express will not hold.  I have to re-do them each day.  That is not right.  I never had to re-do the Outlook Express configurations when I was with dial-up service.  Dumb me for switching to High Speed Internet.  Charter when they came did hook me up to mail.charter.net.  I do not want that.  You cannot read but half of the emails.  The other half is a mess.  Plus, I do not want to type in my I.D. & password each time I get an email.  I do not want Yahoo emails or any other kind except Outlook Express.  That is the email I am used to going into with dial-up-service.  Charter has sold out to Suddenlink.  Maybe when the service is switched to them they will provide better technical support.  I do not have a neighbor that speaks to me.  We live in a rural section.  My grandchildren are ages 2 & 7.  My children live away.  Not one person comes for a visit.  It is my husband and me.  That is it.  My husband does not touch computers.  He cannot even type.  I have canceled my extra line for our phone.  Otherwise, I would go back to my dial-up-service.  My son who lives away conviced me to go with Charter.  That is who our cable service for the T.V. is with.  Otherwise, I would not have gone with them.  Thanks anyway for offering your help.

It has nothing to do with Charter . . somewhere you are not following the directions or the profile is corrupt.  I would try deleting the email account, then set up a new one, following the "Set up a new account" wizard instructions very carefully.

How can they not even let you put in your correct address ? ? That is something you do . . not Charter

It does sound like a corrupted profile . . it is very easy to delete the email account ( Tools . . Accounts . . highlite the account and click on remove ) . . restart OE and set up a new account.

I am not going to touch it anymore.  I will just get my emails through mail.charter.net until my son can come out of state to fix it for me.  On the mail accounts for Charter they ask for my address each time.  They refuse each address that I try to put in.  This is so I can get into "Live Chat" with Charter.  Not the mail.charter.net  I cannot get into their support system with "Live Chat" or do anything like I can with Dell.

Thanks anyway but McAfee Virus protection just fixed the problem.  The Gentlemen was wonderful.  I finally got up with Charter by phone & they gave me the number to go to McAfee to get it fixed.  Nancy1942

Thanks so much.  I just got up with Charter by phone & they said it was McAfee Virus that was causing the configurations not to hold.  So, a wonderful man from McAfee's just fixed it.  Nancy 1942

nancy1942,

You say, "The problem is the configurations in Outlook Express will not hold."

This indicates to me that Outlook Express works properly when you first configure it, then the server information is altered and you have to reenter it. If that is the case, see item #10 here.

So glad you got it fixed! I know how aggravating these configuration problems can be. Make sure that your Connection tab in Internet Options has "Never Dial a Connecion" checked since you have broadband. You'll still be able to dial out if you ever need to, but IE will not look for a dialup connection.
