Actually last night I tried something new that I found on this site. I had to go into regedt32 and add two users (Everyone and SYSTEM). Then give the Everyone user permssions of read only and the SYSTEM full permissions. Seemed like it worked. I could view my device manager now and my plug and play seems to be working.. however the system is still running super slow....
What model system is this and what version of Windows? Open Task Manager and look in CPU column on Processes tab. Aside from System Idle Process, what's using CPU time?
If you haven't done it, run Adaware and then Spybot with latest definition files too.

And if that doesn't fix it, you have malware on your system. Go to Add-Remove programs and, if you have it, remove Contexet Plus.
