End Process in Task Manager

When I have a program that is running and I'm unable to close it out; than I go to the "Task Manager" to end process. How can I tell what program it is that I want to highlight to end process? Some program names may be listed more than once with different .exe files!!! Will any harm be done if I end process on the wrong program? It's probably a dumb question, but I don't know the answer!!! Thanks.

You should not look at Processes tab to end a bad program. Use the Applications tab instead to see the active programs currently running and stop the non responding one.

NEVER, EVER use the Processes area to close a bad program. This is an absolute no~no! Use the Add/Remove Programs found in the control panel instead.

Why would you use Add/Remove Programs to kill a process?

I have always done the following.  1 - Opened the Task Manager; 2 - Selection the Applications Tab; 3 - Right click the application to terminate; 4 - Select "Go To Process"; in the process view; 5 - Right Click the process and select "End Process Tree".
