Ended RPC, now computer won't boot up in normal mode

After I ended the RPC process a screen popped up saying I had so much time to save my stuff before the system shut down and now computer will only boot up in safe mode.  Dell Dimension E310

Have you tried booting with the "last known good configuration"?  If not, try that.

If that won't work, boot to safe mode then do a System Restore to a date prior to ending the RPC.

System Restore can be accessed from Accesories/System Tools

Thanks for the reply.  I tried both of those to no avail; any other ideas?

Two options - both require the Windows XP install CD

1.  at the Run window  enter sfc /scannow  (space between c and /).  This will scan all your files and repair them.  If this works, you MAY have to download the Windows updates again.

2.  If the SFC (system file checker) does not work you will need to boot with the Windows XP and do a "Repair" (similar to a reinstall but only a "repair the OS" procedure).  Again, you will probably have to download the Windows updates after the repair operation.
