Standby (sleep mode?) and hibernate should not be used on desktop PC's.  It was designed for laptops to conserve battery power.  Standby is known to cause many varied problems on desktops.

The general concensus is to only "power off" the monitor (display) and hard drives at whatever time interval you select - nothing else.  You can change that by Right click a blank area on the desktop (screen) then Left click Properties.  Click the Screensaver tab and then click the Power button.
