I've same problem on my Inspiron 17R SE with Win8. I've tried restore system on my new Samsung 830 SSD disk and failed. All test have passed. To restore system I've used USB 3.0 device with system image created by dell recovery application. I've also tried make the same thing using native windows recovery tools and everything was going good to the moment when system ask me about the product key but i didnt get any key.
I have the same error when I try to restore my Windows. This happened because I tried to install a Windows 7, but before I formated the disk C: then the Windows 7 cannot be installed in a GPT partition. Now I have a C: empty and a restore what didn't work. What can I do now?
The error when I try to restore is the same: "Error 0x400110020000100A"
When you change the hard drive in the system it is not possible to restore because of the hard drive size is different. And also the recover disk will not work because of the hard drive size is different. When you create a system recovery disk system will not ask for the product key. Are you using the same recovery disk which you have created for this system? I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.
I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag so I may check the region/country from where the system was purchased and assist you accordingly. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.
Let me not agree with You. It should be no matter if new HDD is different size until I will choose first option during restoring (restore system not all drive) so I still believe is some sort of error of dell's appllication. Remeber that native windows tool to recovery system is doing well till it ask me about a key product. I've asked my dell supplier about the recovery disk so we will see if it helps.
What you have said is right, it may be an application error in your computer. Once you get the recovery disk from the Dell supplier, install the CD and it will not ask for the product key because it will be an OEM version.
OK, so the laptop I'm on has been formatted and partitions deleted, I'm needing to restore Windows 8 on it, but from what I'm gathering I have to do a clean install, how do I do this given the hard drive size has changed?
I've had a similar problem when trying to restore my Dell Inspiron 17R to a factory reset. Whether I try a factory reset or reset to an image made at an earlier point in time, I run into the error "0x400110020000100A" in just a couple of steps, and the system restarts all over again. I don't mind losing any data, and am quite at my wits end that I don't mind doing a clean install either. How do I proceed?
