Error Code 10

I have a new Sony DVDirect DVD burner. It connects via a USB 2.0. When I connect it to my Dell, I get  a message saying that an unknown device was connected. I have installed the drivers that came with the burner. I continue to get error code 10, device cannot start when I go into device manager. Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

The easiest way to solve a USB error code 10 in Windows XP is to follow the steps below to remove and reinstall all USB controllers.

  1. Click on Start
  2. Right Click on My Computer, click on Properties
  3. Click on the Hardware tab
  4. Click the Device Manager button.
  5.  Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers section.
  6. Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
  7. Restart the computer, and allow the computer to reinstall the USB controllers.
  8.  Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.

In most cases, this will fix that error.
