Error Downloading Codec

Hey,

I am trying to play a video in windows media player...The file opens but  a bunch of messages flash real fast a the bottom of the screen and the last one says error downloading codec. I dont know what this means, but the sound plays, just no picture. It's a .avi file so it should be a movie not just a sound file right? IS there something wrong with windows media player?

Thanks

sweet thanks! I still got an error message at the end of the install but the file plays now.

The error was 1904 Module C:\Program Files\vistacodecpack\filters\dxr.dll could not register HRESULT something about contact your support personell. Is this going to cause problems?

delete that download, click on this " Softpedia Secure Download (RO) - stable"  to download the file

You can try to reinstall the package again, this time right click on the exe and choose properties and go to compatibility tab and tick "run as administrator"  hit OK then execute it.

Filters are the same as codecs, that was just a failure to install one of the many codecs in the package.

Or you can do the following:    Hold the flag key down and tap R  copy and paste the line below into the run box and hit enter. See if it registers.

        regsvr32 c:\ProgramFiles\VistaCodecPack\filters\dxr.dll
