error installing media direct 3 using the DVD supplied (I found the problem) !!

Dear all

i have tried to reinstall windows xp on my inspiron 6400 , i have the media direct 3 reinstallation DVD . when i try to insert the MD3 dvd first and boot to create the partitions , it does create them and every thing goes fine except for an error messeage that says the MD3 patch couldnt be found and MD3 launch button could not be found.

when i installed windows then quick set then media direct 3 from the DVD i managed to run it when the windows is loaded ,, but not when the operating system is off.

when the operating system is off,  i press the media direct launch button it launches windows instead of media direct, then when windows is loaded it loads the media direct software .

i think my motherboard or my bios is not compatible with media direct 3 . i dont have the reinstallation DVD for media direct 2 , so im stuck .

any help please .

regards

goot documentation. seems youre advanced at pc repair.!

in the applications section for that pc in downloads of support.. mediadirect reapir tool. try that. if not call dell they might still have v2 in stock. (3 days shipping average)

If your system came with media direct 3 there should be no problem at all reinstalling media direct 3 or using it either. You can try the repair tool, update your system BIOS to the latest version. Media direct 2 has a different installation procedure than media direct 3. What I would advise you is to call tech support for a step by step procedure in installing media direct 3. As much as I want to give you the steps but it is easier to have someone on the phone.

Dear all

I DID IT !!!!

I figured out what the problem was , my inspiron 6400 refused installing media direct 3 properly because my bios version was older than required.

I had bios with version 11 , i went to the downloads page and found an update for the motherboard.

i have upgraded from Bios ver 11  to Bios ver 14.  now it works like a charm

regards
