Error - Java Virtual Machine Launcher: Cannot find main class.

When I start up my XP machine, I get this error:

Java Virtual Machine Launcher: Cannot find main class.

Any help out there ?

Thanks in advance,

It sounds as if your Java Virtual Machine is not loaded. Go here to download the Microsoft version: http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.html  or go here to download the Sun Version: www.sun.com or www.java.com

I don't think it has to do with not being loaded, it is a brand new machine, week old, I think it has something to do with a specific application trying to load.

If you can boot to the Desktop & open IE use Tools > Internet Options , Advanced tab & scroll to "Multimedia" , if JAVA is loaded it will show Java (Sun)  or Microsoft VM  above "Multimedia".
New Computers aren't supplied with Microsoft VM Java anymore my AU machine was supplied with Sun JAVA but some aren't.

You can also check IE JAVA by using site  http://javatester.org/version.html if IE JAVA is loaded it will connect & display the version in pink box , if not loaded it won't connect.

You can get FREE SUN JAVA file about 14.5 MB manual download or use Auto download "Get it here" link.
http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp

You can also get FREE Microsoft VM JAVA from
http://web.iress.com.au/info/JavaVM.htm  or
http://www.vrgraz.at/download/java/

You might consider the possibility that some form of spyware or malware has inserted itself into your account startup. While you might be able to find the process using "msconfig", it would probably be better to scan your system with AdAware and SpyBot to make sure that there aren't other problems. You'll find information and advice available in the first link listed below.

Well I have figured it out, now just not sure if I corrected it the right way .

I have AdAware, and had done a scan the other day. I guess when it found "Web savings from Ebates" it deleted it and all of it's files. When I go into "msconfig" under the startup tab, there is a startup item, trying to launch, which of course the file is now missing:

javaw -cp "c:\programfiles\websavingsfromebates\system\code"Main lp: "C:\programfiles\websavingsfromebates"

location:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I tried unselecting the file, but after rebooting it came up that you have changed the way the system starts from normal startup to selective startup. So I did the next best thing, I found it in the registry, backed it up, (to be safe) and then deleted it. Everything is fine now.

Thanks for everyones help !
