Error loading operating system' Windows 98

Hello,

I have an IBM PC Thinkcentre, Series 8194, 2.3 gHz processor, 256 MB RAM & 80 GB internal hard drive.  Windows XP Professional series was pre-installed on the workstation.  I am attempting to enable the workstation to dual-boot between XP & Windows 98.

I used PartitionMagic 7.0 to partition the entire physical drive into two logical drives, one 8 GB & the other 72GB.  I converted both to FAT32.  I then installed Windows 98 onto the primary logical drive (since I've heard that 98 would need to be installed first, and on the primary partition).  Now whenever I boot up the machine, I get an 'Error loading operating system' 'Press any key to continue' message.

I tried doing a format on the hard drive via a recovery boot diskette, but whenever I install Windows 98, it still gives me the same message.  Help!

Thanks,

Mike

If you have a boot diskette, try this command in the command prompt: sys c:. That should resolve your problem, or else you can try FDISK /MBR. If these won't work then what you need to do is to use a third party software, to Change your MBR to a standard mode. Try that.
