error message #1004

When i start up my laptop latitude on windows 2000 professional I get an error message #1004 and it says to notify dell. By using F1 i can proceed. Does anyone know how to find out what this message means?

Go install the BIOS update.

Whoever gave the BIOS update tip is a genius.  I had this problem for weeks (and couldn't fix it or get ahold of a soul at Dell)  This update worked immediately, and my computer is back to normal.
