Error message at shutdown.

I hope some of you may be able to help me with your expertise.
I actually have what I guess is a minor problem, but I want to keep it that way.
Some times, I am seeing an error message when I shut down my system. It only appears for a few seconds, and then the system shuts down. It also does not happen every time I shut down, just from time to time.
The duration of the message makes it difficult to read, but after a few weeks I "believe" it says this.

The instruction at "0X00634721" referenced memory at "0X00638AEO" the memory could not be read. Click ok to terminate.

I have an Inspiron 9300 two years old this month. It runs XP Media Center 2005. Intel Pentium M 1.6 GHZ, I gig ram, 80 Gig hitatchi hard drive, ATI Mobility Radeon X300, Sony Dual layer rewritable DVD.

I cant really roll my system back, because I am not exaclty sure when the problem started. I have really updated all my drivers and done a lot of other things over the last month or so, I am thinking about upgrading to Vista premium, but I actually think this happened once before any of this.

I purchased "system Mechanic" and installed on my computer thinking maybe it was something to do with the registry or something similar. Problem still persists.

Dell support system check finds no problems.

Full 1.5 to 2 hour self diagnostics found no problems.

I was having my cursor blink with the hour glass symbol in an erratic fashion from time to time, and in searching the posts for that I came across a program from Microsoft that I installed entitled "user profile hive clean up system"

My cursor now seems to be fine, and until today, I thought my error message was gone for good as well.

I can not find anything on Microsoft or even when I google.

Like I said, this is probably nothing major, but I would like to be sure, and to keep it that way.

I love computers, but as far as knowing anything about them, I would consider myself to be in the beginner range.

any help at all would be appreciated.
   Thanks

Brogene,

I've seen that type of error caused by Microsoft Windows Defender when the newer Microsoft Genuine Validation software had not been installed.

Hope this info helps.

Thanks for the reply. I took so long getting back because I wanted to see how it went for a couple of days. After reading your post, I went to Microsoft site and did a re-validation of my OS and also of my Office 2007. I actually noticed that on two separate occasions recently, when I opened my office 2007 program, it gave a message that office would have to re-install, and then it re-installed completely, apparently from hard drive, with no interaction from me at all...
after the program re-installed, it worked fine.
After reading your post and then seeing how much Microsoft now uses the validation, I decided that my office program may think it has not been validated...
Since I did the re-validation, I have not seen any error messages.

Thanks for the help, and I will keep my fingers crossed.
