Error message igfxres.dll

I have a new dell laptop recently delivered but every time i switch it on the error message appears. c:\windows\system32\igfxres.dll is either designed not to run on windows or it contains an error. As this is a graphics driver is there one available on a download?

Go to Drivers and Downloads and enter either your computer or service tag number.

Go to the Video drivers and install the Intel Drivers again. The error message should go away.

I just got my brand new computer three hours ago (My Valentine's present from my hubby!) and it had this error as soon as I turned it on.  This solution worked, easy!  Just wanted to say THANKS!

peacefulandloving,

Thanks for posting back. I'm glad you get it working. Glad to see you have more time to spend with your hubby.

Thanks for your valuable post, the download solved this problem i've had for a couple weeks. The error message  caused my computer to hang on startup, and would have to click on the error message a couple times to get it going. It was getting very frustrating. Had even tried  registry fix software, with no luck. It's great to have this kind of support. Dave

Dave,

Please be very careful using registry cleaner as they can also mess up your computer. You may want to make a system restore point before using any. Also I suggest to keep the computer up to date with Windows Updates but...do NOT install drivers that are offered. They are either the wrong ones and/or they get installed wrong causing many devices to malfunction. If you have a problem with a device, go to Dell's Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number(do NOT post your service tag here as it contains personal information and the post will be deleted) and get the drivers or go to the manufacturers website. Most people will post here and get pointed in the right direction.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Take care,

Rick

Dear Rick,

I went to Dell's driver downloads, downloaded all 17 drivers to "my downloads" file.

Now how do I install them?  They are in the folder but how do I install whatever I need?  It finished the download but it never asked wheter to install or not.

Thank you,

Patricia Pedraza

Patricia Pedraza,

You have to instal the drivers in this order.

The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first(if applicable), then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install.

Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.

:emotion-55: Hint :emotion-55: When downloading the drivers, make a folder for each drivers and name it with the device it belongs with to make it easier to install them in the proper order.

Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software(if applicable)
Chipset or SMBus driver
Processor Driver (if applicable)
Video
Audio (sound)
Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network Card

QuickSet(Laptop only)

I have an older XPS M1210 running Vista Home Premium, 32-bit.  I recently started getting blue screens when I ran videos in some websites (cNet, Tiger Direct, etc) and DVD's in both Media Direct and Media Player.  I downloaded and re-installed the Intel 945 drivers from the Dell website (twice) and now the XPS crashes almost every time I boot it up.  System restore also doesn't seem to solve the problem.  The problem seems to be igferes.dll.  I also ran Microsoft's System File Checker, which reported some corrupt files, but I couldn't get access to the log - even though I am the administrator and was at the Administrator command prompt.  Any ideas?
