You should post this in the "MS Office/Works" thread. I think the "experts" there can assist you the better.

I guess it is also a good idea if you say what account this is. Hotmail, gmail etc.

Edit.

Read it again, saw it is outlook eexpress, not microsoft outlook. Sorry.

But it still could be you get it in the other thread.

You need to use the file repair utility, SCANPST.EXE.  Fill in the file path with:  C:\Documents and settings\YOUR USER NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Outlook Express.pst .  I know that this works for Outlook and I think it should also fix your Outlook Express.

Paindoc,

FYI, Outlook Express stores messages in .dbx files, not .pst file. The scanpst tool is only for MS Office Outlook .pst files.

Gathorn,

Close OE,

Try deleting the file called 'Deleted Items.dbx' as it may be corrupt

It should be recreated when you next open OE and delete a message.

If that does not work and you are trying to delete a message from your inbox, first move any messages that you want to keep that are in the inbox to a new folder, close OE, then delete 'inbox, dbx' (that will remove any messages remaining in your inbox). A fresh version of inbox.dbx will be recreated next time you open OE.

The .dbx files are stored in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{A33FE554-2508-44E2-8C6C-3BF0D0EA8125}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

(the long alphanumeric folder name may vary, not sure, but it is the only one in the identities folder; local settings is a hidden folder: Control panel, folder options, view tab, check radio button show hidden files and folders; also, to see the .dbx extension, uncheck hide extensions for known file types, click apply, OK.

ghathorn, sometimes those mailboxes get "stuffed" and don't work well, or not at all. Adding to the info that JRosenfeld posted above:

1. Close your OE.

2. In Windows XP, go to your Deleted Items.dbx located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{A33FE554-2508-44E2-8C6C-3BF0D0EA8125}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\ Deleted Items.dbx

3. Delete the Deleted Items.dbx

4. When you open OE again, a clean, empty Deleted Messages box will be created. See if that helps.

** Note: If you want to save the Deleted Items.dbx -- if you are afraid it won't be created again, copy it to the Desktop before you delete the file. That way, you'll have the old one if for some reason a new one is not created. You can always move it back to the original location.

Thanks for the info .  As I said in my post, I do not use OXPRS.
