Error Message 'Runtime Error'

Question

I have a Dimension 4550. Right out of the box, I started having problems with Word 2002. The problem continues after five months. I frequently get the following error message when I close documents: 'Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program: C\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10\Winword.exe Abnormal Program Termination' Then the program closes and has to recover documents etc. I have contacted Dell, and they have walked me through a 'Detect and Repair' routine which they said would definitely fix the problem.   Didn't. Then I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it from my CD. Still didn't stop the problem. Now Dell is referring me to Microsoft. Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas? Thanks

Fredbrew,

Go to Start|Search and look for normal.dot. Right-click and delete every instance that is found. When you start Word again it will generate a new normal template and should correct the problem.

i have a dell deminsion 4550 brand new and i get theese error messages virtual runtime error visual c+++ and then it says abnormal program termination this happens alot especially when im on the internet then my internet explorer stops responding and it boots me off also some times when i shutdown it will show me abnormal  program termination visual c because the windows station is shutting down and the shutdown process stops and i have to click shutdown my computer also runs real slow when i start up and its a 1.2 gig brand new dell i dont understand whats going on any help would be greatly appreciated
