error message when installing ms-dos or 16-bit windows based program

has anyone had a problem with installing an ms-dos or 16-bit windows based program,im having a problem with  software for an epson printer keeping getting this message-

C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

ive been told there could be some damaged or missing files.

You cannot install old printer software in XP and you don't need it. Just visit the Epson web site and follow the directions for installing on XP.

ive been to epson website downloaded the program i need but it wont install keep getting same error message.they told me its something to do with my computer

You should mention the printer model. Make sure the drivers you download is specifically for Windows XP. If not, don't even try to install it. Just use the generic XP drivers if available. XP does not even have DOS, so if your printer is really old, you might not be able to use it with XP. You cannot install dos or 16 bit software at all.

the printer his a epson stylus r200 its new.i have a friend who has one hes on xp the software installed fine on his.

Then try it again and follow the directions on the Epson site. Reboot & don't open any other programs before installing.
