Error message when trying to install Dell Support Center 3

I kept getting the pop up that reads "Dell Support Center had stopped working". I read in these forums to uninstall then reinstall version 3. Upon reinstalling version 3  I am getting this error " error getting cert file name (Property: Custom Action Data) from MSI:" It will not install.  I have Windows 7 64bit. Dell Studio XPS 1640. I am not a computer wiz but this is driving me crazy.

Beckys2000,

Did you follow these instructions?

Hit Windows and the R keys at the same time.

Type

C:\Program Files\Dell Support Center

Look for "uninstall", "uninst.exe" or for "uninst"

Click it and follow the instructions.

If you still have problems, then...

Go to Temp Folder (C:\Users\*YOUR USERNAME*\AppData\Local\Temp\), delete everything in this folder.

Go to 'C:\Users\*YOUR USERNAME*\AppData\Roaming' delete the 'PCDR' folder.

Make sure Dell Support Center is not in the programs and features list.

I successfully uninstalled using the Control Panel/Uninstall. When I try to deleted my Temp files one will not delete. It says Action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer. The file is FXSAPI/Debuglogfile. My browser is shut down. I am not an expert but I do have alittle knowledge with assistance.

For the last few days, I have this message popping up on my screen: "Dell support center stopped working. Windows will close the program and will tell you if there is a solution" (since my windows is in the spanish version, i am translating here). It does not prevent me from using internet and the computer properly. To sole the problem, I decided to uninstall to reinstall Dell Support Center. I don't succeed in installing it. A message saying "error of connectivity detected". I have followed the instructions above in this conversation to uninstall the program properly but it still does not work when I try to install it. Can you help me here please?

I have a laptop Studio 1537 and Windows Vista.

Thank you in advance,

Emmanuelle

Emmanuelle,

Try the instructions located at...

Uninstall Dell Support Center

Drivers and link to reinstall, if you want it installed. It's not a necessary program but some people like it installed.

Hello,

Before contacting you, I had read the conversation and followed the instructions given to Becky2000. I have done it twice and it still does not work. Last time, It tells me "errors of connectivity detected".

The one things I don't find is the followwing "uninstall", "uninst.exe" or for "uninst" in C:\Program Files\Dell Support Center.

When I follow the following instructions, everything works fine (delete everything in the temp folder and the PCDR file) except that when I delete the files in the temp folder, there is one file starting with "etilqs" which does not want to be deleted because this file is open a message says. But after trying a few times, i can delete it (when I close Firefox actually).

Thank you for your help again.

Emmanuelle

I have this same issue, and cannot get Dell Support Center to install without error (then it uninstalls itself).  I have followed all the steps twice without success.

Emmanuelle,

Open the Dell Support Center.

Clcik on the little gear, personalization and make sure both boxes are checked. Click Apply, then close. Close the Dell Support Center. Now when you open it, you should be able to get it to connect.

These instructions were followed exactly? I actually had to use this procedure and it work for me.

Restart your computer, then download and install Dell Support Center

 Rick,

Thanks for the information...It worked! You just saved me $100-$169 on a Dell Service Plan. I spoke w/ a tech from India and he was willing to assist me for a fee.

I pray you are BLESSED ABOVE AND BEYOND for sharing your knowledge.

Hello Rick,

I am coming back with my problem (That I let on the side since we last talked). Regarding the message above, since I don't have dell support center installed on my computer, I cannot do what you tell me to just above. Do you have an idea of what it could be? Thanks,

Emmanuelle

Emmanuelle,

Since you uninstalled the Dell Support Center, it will no longer be there.

Not quite sure what you're trying to tell me. Is there a problem on your computer? Any error messages? If so, can you post the exact error message?

Dell Computers have a diagnostic partition installed. If it's not installed, you can run it with the drivers disk that came with your computer. How to Run the Dell™ Diagnostics Utility This is an accurate test to tell if the computer is working properly. It does NOT offer updates or other things.
