You need to be able to see what it says.

Download Screenhunter (Free version)
Configure it to save pics into a destination folder (My pictures) (also configure the hotkey in the program (I use "printscreen")

When you get ready to shut down, as soon as you see the error message, hit the hot key. It should save a pic of your error.

When you reboot, you can go to your picture folder, and open the image. If you was fast enough, you should have an image of the error.

Another possible way is gong to:

Start==Control panel (classic view) and go to

Administrative tools==Event Viewer.

Click on Application in the left pane
Open the entries with red X and see if the memory error is shown.

Do the same for "System" in the left pane, and check for errors in the right pane. Good luck!!

P.S. I have Spybot and Adaware on my pc, but not the other two programs you list. I've never heard of Spyware Blaster or Kelly's corner. I have Norton AV and Norton Internet Security also on my computer, and it's difficult accessing the internet with certain settings from these programs. I've had to disable some to connect to a DNS Server. It's a real nuisance.

This is what I was able to find out by going to Control Panel, Administrative Tool, Events Viewer. I don't know what they mean, but these errors came up numerous times;

Here is the first one:

Unable to open the Server Service. Server Performance data will not be returned. Error code returned is in DWord 0. It also mentioned perfnet.dll. I know dll files are shared files, but that is about it.

Here is the other messge, it's rather long:

Windows saved user Robin\Robin M. Plante registry while an application or service was still using the registry during Log Off. The memory used by the registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.   This is often caused by Services running as a user account. Try configuring the services to run in either the Local Service or Network Service. Acct. Esent.dll.

I have a cable/modem for my internet service, but I don't know if that is what it means or not. Does any of this make any sense? I restarted my computer about 10 times and the error message hasn't show up again yet. I have SP2 on my pc and had to delete Dell Solutions Center because it wouldn't work with the Windows update. Now I'll download that program you gave me the link to and set up a hotkey.  Hope you can make more sense out of this than I can. My email is rplante1@maine.rr.com if you should need it.

Thank you for the help.

Make sure The "Server" service is enabled in  Administrative tools--Services.

I do not know if that service is required, but my printer stopped working when I disabled it.

The second warning is normal. That is an user enviroment problem, and there is a patch. But it isn't neccessary.

Well, that answers one question. Last week my printer also stopped working. I called HP and they gave me a list of a bunch of stuff to do. I didn't bother. Instead I installed the driver again and somehow got it working. Right now it's still working. Now I know why it just stopped working, but I don't know what I did to make it stop working. I never went into Control Panel and touched the settings. I've had computers for a long time but I never knew that the Server setting would make it stop working if you turned it off.

When I go into Control Panel-Administrative Tools-do I click on Event Viewer or the Services shortcut to see if "Server" is listed? I did go to the Services shortcut and saw Services listed, but I wasn't sure if that was the right file.

Glad the other problem is nothing. I won't even worry about the patch.

Services.

Fastest way(unless you have a shortcut) to get to Services is to go to:

Start---Run---Type in "services.msc" (without quotes) then OK.

Look a the list of services, and see if "Server" is running or disabled.

If disabled, you can enable it by double clicking on it,

Click on the General Tab.

Look for "Startup type"

It should be automatic. If not, click on the drop-down window, and set it to auto.

See if your errors go away in event viewer after you reboot.

Good luck!!!

I checked it, and it is set to automatic. But as I was going down the line of programs, there are a lot that are labeled Manual start, like my Uninterruptible Power Supply, to Disabled, like my Smart Card. I think it's referring to my memory card that goes to my digital camera. Should everything be set to automatic? I'm not sure what half of the abbreviations mean.

This will give you some idea how to set your services, and what they are,  but if you are not having any real problems, you may want to leave them alone. Just compare.
