Error message
For 3-4 weeks, I have been receiving the following message: Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and must shut down, we are sorry, etc...... The detailed information I receive is:
Appver: 6.0.2800.1221
Modname:ntdll.dll
Modver: 5.1.2600.1217
Offset: 00007ec4
My critical windows updates & my virus program updates are all current. I did a full check of my computer with negative results. When I check the programs that are running on my computer, in one case but not all, the "my picture folder" has stopped responding. If I remove this problem, I can go back into my picture folder and continue whatever... This problem has occurred in several folders.
Thanks for your help

You could try: sfc /scannow
I beleive that it checks for corrupted files and fixes them uing the re-installation disk.

i don't use a cdrw so i am not familiar with using them, but i have heard that programs that are used for writing directly to cd's can cause "explorer" to crash.. so, if you are running "directcd" of something like that it could be causing the problem.. whether you actually use the program to write directly to cd's is not the issue, but whether or not the program is running..

I think it may be related to your Roxio software (Easy CD/DirectCD); did you do the upgrade from the Roxio/Symantec site ?
I think this is a compatibilty problem and a fix(upgrade) may well fix it. Go to Start/Run and Enter this command:
msconfig
On the "Startups" tab un-check all Roxio software, apply, ok, restart computer. If you cease getting the error messages then you probably need the update. btw, your ntdll.dll file appears ok.

1. Do an online AV scan. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
2. Download , install, update and run this freeware. http://www.tucows.com/preview/236049.html
3. Uninstall the Roxio suite, restart and re-install Roxio software.
4. If you're using Easy CD Creator 5 Basic update it for XP from this site.

If you are not comfortable doing the uninstall/reinstall process skip #3.

I posted a few ideas yesterday but the board went down or timed out and I had to run. Sorry.
1. Run MS qfecheck utility. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q282784
2. Check your Device Manager re bad drivers, esp. video (ati ?).
3. Run this command: dxdiag
4. Run this command: msconfig. Hit the Expand Files button. Fill in the 3 boxes with these entries:
ntdll.dll
c:\windows\system32\dllcache
c:\windows\system32
Expand, ok, etc.
5. Special MS hotfix for a similar message; ask them if it may be applicable to your message.
