error message

when i startup, get a window titled"16 bit windows subsystem". the message reads, "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft windows applications . choose "close" to terminate the application."
i also got the same message while trying to install a program from CD.
Any ideas how to fix?

This is a software problem rather than a BIOS problem.  If the following link doesn't help solve the problem, please post your message in the Software - Windows XP forum where you are likely to find more people that can help you:

My desktop computer is down because of that System32 error. That is a virus of some sort from Microsoft. I have to go buy a web cleaner to take all out and reinstall everything. The sales clerk at Circut city said they can not keep the web cleaners in because everyone has gotten infected with this virus. even she had to buy one. I have written Microsoft over and over and also called them. They are not making any comments. Good luck. Sorry.
