Right-click the clock and select Adjust Date/Time. Click Intennet Time tab and change the server used to synchronize the clock to time-a.nist.gov. Click Update button and wait for the server to respond that the clock has been synchronized before closing the window.

The error message you got ocurrs if the server being contacted is unavailable or fails to respond within a set time limit.

Check your firewall.  I had that problem and temporarily disabled the firewall (Zone Alarm) and then it worked.
