Error Reinstalling XP

My sister recently gave me her Dell Dimension 4400 with a 40G Maxtor drive and 128m. I added a USB 2 card, and an additional 512 of memory. There were no problem with either of these upgrades. I then reformatted the disk and tried to reinstall XP Home with the original Dell installation disk. Everything seem to be going well until the Installing Devices process. I then received a "Device Installing Error" Windows could not load the installer for CDRom, contact your Hardware Vendor for Assistance. I received the same message for the "DiskDrive" and "Battery". I clicked OK for each message. The process continued until I received another error message. " Can not Install this Hardware. There was a Problem Installing This Hardware: "System". Error Occurred During the Installation of the Device. The Data is Invalid." Setup ceased and then looped back to the installation process with the same result. I have tried reformatting and installing only to have the same result.

You need to remove the USB card for the install . . . they will stall an installation every time

You may also need to replace the battery on the motherboard.

Thanks,

I Tried removing both the USB Card and the Memory stick but XP still gives me the error messages and hangs up.

Is it possible that I bought this on by doing a complete reformat includining any hidden partition that Dell may of had on the disk?
