Error: Renaming File or Folder

After numerous wipes, replaced parts, I finally did a clean install of Win XP Home.  Computer has been down for almost a month now with one problem after another.  Tech support on the phone has reached the ridiculous now, even for someone with no computer knowledge like me.   After the last clean install, the computer kept freezing up when working with images.  I have a dell 8300 with 1.5 something for speed and a 250 something hard drive.  I use Paint Shop Pro 7,8 & 9.  The hundreds of files I have stored in "My Documents files" are images---jpg. tub, pspimage, gif, etc.  When I called, the tech told me not to use an anti virus program cause it was probably re-reading the files.  When I said that in 6 years, it hadn't, I couldn't get him off that kick and hung up.  Since he had me do something in "misconfig" and I didn't know what it was, I called back.  The next one told me to stay in the misconfig and disable all Microsoft programs since something was interfering with using the images.  I hung up and when I went to do something, I couldn't find my files.  So I went back to misconfig and checked everything and restarted machine 2 times to get them back.  I then used the system restore to an earlier point and everything seemed to be back to normal.    This reinstalling everything every couple of days is getting old. Using system restore discs seems to be the only fix that the Dell Technical Support tells you to do.  We have used the system restore discs 4-5 times, 2 quick installs with Win XP disc and one clean install with Win XP disc.  I've done everything they said to do and it's still not right.  I hate having a $2300. 00 paperweight.  I found out about having multiple access points to files.  I have around 100 discs of Paint Shop Pro Tubes to install.  While I was having problems for the past month, I would go online and save everything into one file that I could easily put onto a CD.  When I went to change the name of one of those files so there would be no problem with installing stuff from the other CD's, I got this error message----no numbers, just the message.  I can't change ANY file names.   Error Renaming File or Folder: Cannot rename Tubes.  Access is denied.  Make sure the disc is not full or write protected and that the file is currently not in use.  I'm not using a disc, it's in a file in My Documents.  I didn't have it open and no program was using it.  I'm the only user on the machine so I should have access.  This Win XP is worse than ME!!  Help  It's stuff I downloaded or made so it can't be write protected.

I do not know if you have the same problem I had. There was an html document messing up my computer. But try this: The folder you have a problem with, change the view settings from thumbnails to tiles. Close the folder, log off, and on.

Now go back, and see if the problem still exists. Good luck!!!

Thank You       I did that and then was able to change the name.   Dell's computers have soooooo many glitches.  It's so good there are forums because all of you seem to know more than their technical support.  I had a terrible time with my System 32 File opening all of a sudden when the computer started.  Dell's tech's couldn't help and someone told me to go to start/all programs/creative/sound blaster/audigy 2/ welcome message.  Check the do not show this message again on their welcome screen and it never opened on start up again.
