Error reports
For the last two weeks, I have been recieving found new hardware messages every time I play any kind of media (songs, movies, etc). Shortly after, I get error reports and I have been continuosly sending them to microsoft every time they appear. It says the files involved in the report were:
C:\DOCUME~1\Aschon\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER6fd8.dir00\rundll32.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Aschon\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER6fd8.dir00\appcompat.txt
I don't know what to do. I have scanned for viruses but do not believe that is the cause of this problem.
Any help solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Andrew655,
Click Start|Run. Type sfc /scannow. Have your Windows XP disk handy as this checks Windows system files to be sure they are the same version. If you have more than one antivirus program, uninstall one of them. This has been a source of this problem in the past. Also, make sure that you don't have two firewalls running; such as Windows Firewall and McAfee Personal Firewall, or Norton Internet Security Firewall and Zone Alarm.
To further isolate exactly where the problem originates, click on Start|Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Event Viewer. Check application events that have Red Circle with white cross and Yellow Triangles with exclamation mark. Right click on these events. Left click on Properties to get more details. Look for Event ID number and specific details of application running when event occurred. Let us know what you find.
Downloader trojans have also caused this error in the past. Run any antivirus and antispyware programs you have from Safe Mode. Those boogers can hide from AV and Antispyware in Normal mode on occasion.
