Error using Windows Update on Vista Home Premium

I have a new Dell Insiron 1520 laptop with Vista Home Premium.  When I try searching for updates, it says "Windows could not search for new updates" and gives error code 8000FFFF.  Any thoughts?

Suggest to do a system restore. I had the same issue and restored the day before the error. And dont do anything else (i know it sounds stupid) while the update is installing. Let it finish then see if you get the same errors.

I tried returning to the original configuration from Dell and it still has the error.

I tried removing KB929777 and it says "An error has occurred.  Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled."

If KB929777 is installed, remove it.

Frustrating, this KB929777 is to correct an issue with systems with 3gb ram or more, and should not be installed on a system with less than 3gb ram. I have seen many posts about this update coming thru windows updates when it does not apply to that system, causing this problem.

I am still looking for a solution for you.

How much memory is installed on that PC?

I have scoured the internet for a solution in this particular case, none to be found yet.

All I can suggest is to manually download the KB929777 from the link below, save it to a folder of choice, once downloaded, turn of any 3rd party security/anti-virus software you may have installed, then try to install it from the folder where you saved it, see if it installs successfully, if it does, try windows update again.

Thanks.  I tried that last night and it said the update wasn't applicable to my computer.

I've been searching the net too and found other people with the same problem, but no solution yet.

I wonder if there is a way to manually remove the update.

Same problem. Same laptop specs, too. Man I hope someone can figure this one out.

My 1521 does it own download and update after midnight and then if there is anything that needs attention I do it in the morning it will pop up thats what I like about Vista. You don't have to nothing at all like you had to do with XP.
