Please reply us with the snapshot of the error message you receive and the system model so that I could suggest you the further steps.
Also, please follow the steps in the link below to update the Windows 8 to 8.1.

If you still haven't upgraded to Windows 8.1 can you please try the upgrade again to see if it works. Please let us know.Thanks!
