OK, many thanks. I saw the string on Special Interest - Virus re trying SpyBot and Ad-Aware, then resorting to the HJT log. I actually haven't run Ad-Aware, so perhaps it's worth giving this a try. But failing that, I'll move to HJV.
Since you have Spybot installed you can use it to check the "Tools" > "Hosts file".
Use Start > All Programs > Spybot > Advanced Mode.
"Tools" > "Hosts file"
It should only show "localhost" 127.0.0.1
unless you add added other sites.
Some programs auto add sites like
www.google.com ,
www.yahoo.com & gives them an IP address of the site it then connects to.
If you find any extra site line they can be Deleted by uses "Run".
Press Windows+R keys together & type
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc then Click OK or press the "Enter" key.
Then Double Click on the hosts file & check "Select the program.........." , "OK".
Select "Notepad" & Delete the extra lines , leaving the line
127.0.0.1 localhost
Close using the X button & Save file.
----------------
Spybot , Advanced Mode > Immunize button > also gives extra options "Lock" ,
where you can "Lock" the Hosts file to prevent further changes from being auto added.
_______________
It is also advisable to use both Spybot & Ad-aware & they have different Data bases & Ad-aware Data is updated more frequently than the Spybot Data base.
